Hi everyone
I'm using mutt and when sending mail, i understand it uses the suse default sendmail function. The problem i've got is that, because i have a dynamic ip i presume, some servers won't accept messages from me.
Therefore, i want to relay the mail through another smtp server, say my isp. I have been looking on google and through the list archive but haven't yet come across any information that has helped me.
If you have a default installation then Postfix is probably installed as default MTA. The Sendmail binary of Postfix inserts mails from the commandline into the mailqueue. Postfix smtp client then sends the mail to the destination. If you have a dynamic ip you probably need to authenticate with username and password when you send a mail. This is the basic configuration to send the mail via your provider: /etc/postfix/main.cf: relayhost = [mail.example.com] smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/smtp_relayhost_auth smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous /etc/postfix/smtp_relayhost_auth: [mail.example.com] username:password Then execute "postmap hash:/etc/postfix/smtp_relayhost_auth" and "postfix reload". Check in /var/log/mail if any errors pop up when you start postfix or when you now send a mail. If you still have problems please send output of "postconf -n" and the parts of /var/log/mail where the error is logged to the list. -- Sandy List replies only please!
