List (mostly for Per Jessen),
New Tyan Tomcat K8E S2865ANRF Socket939 with Opteron 185, (2 Gig OCX Platinum -- certified by OCX in Denmark and returned 2 weeks ago) and a pair of Seagate 500G drives in raid 1.
The damn thing continuously continues to lock up with the 10.3 x86_64 install freshly put on it? I have eliminated the ram issue by running 4 sticks of confirmed good ram in (a) standalone 64 bit with 1G stick, (b) 2G dual-channel 64 bit in dimm 1 & 3, (c) standalone 128 bit 1G stick in dimm 1 and 2G with 2 128 bit sticks in dimm 1 & 2, and still these random lock occur. Power is from a Corsair 550W powersupply. lm-sensors says all voltages and temps are great.
The mother board has a bios code window (LCD) on the motherboard and I have caught all the bios codes and all the codes say everything is OK. I have gone through the bios and turned anything non-necessary off (Ser 1, Ser 2, Parallel, AC97 sound, etc.) Doesn't make any difference.
Temperature isn't a problem either. The box is an Antec p182 case w/3 120mm fans, core 1 temps idle at 30 degrees C and are 37-38 under load. The core 2 temps idle at 23 and average 30 when underload. The bois PC Health and lm-sensors temps match almost exactly. All well short of the 74 degree safe operating limit and well short of the 85 degree shutdown temp.
I am thinking about setting 2 sticks of dynamite under the box just to make me feel better if I can't find a solution.
I hate it when new toys break!
