[opensuse] Dell Latitude D400 splash screen - 10.3

Hi,
I have a problem with OS 10.3 - The splash screen doesn't show on boot /
shutdown, and the splash on suspend is distorted. How can I fix this?
I suspect it's something to do with the frame buffer, but don't know a lot
about this / them / it.
bootsplash is installed. Everything else seems to be working well. It's
fully updated.
