[opensuse] Trouble reading DVD/CDs

Gradually my Suse 10.3 box has got worse and worse reading DVD/CDs. It
has now got to the point where it wont recognise/read any DVD/CD I put
in to either drive (Sony hardware - 1xdvd Burner, 1xDVD-ROM) Is to the
point where if I need to read any optical media, I have to fire up
Windows (shudderrrr)
Any thoughts?
