Hello, in order to get sound to work (at least to work consistently) I need to add the user to the 'audio' user group.
The problem I am having is that to make this work in a lab environment I need to add 100's of users the audio group which seems a tortured way to make audio work. Is there a better way?
Yast, Security and Users, Group Management. You would only need to click a check box for each one in that list. To make it easy for subsequent, change the defaults (Expert options, Defaults for New Users)
One solution might be to change the permissions on the audio devices:
find /dev -group audio -exec chmod 666 {} \; -print
or something similar, but I am not 100% sure this will solve all audio issues. Also, the device permissions are reset on reboot (though I figure if I find the right configuration file I can fix this).
It will be under /etc/udev/rules.d/, but adding to the audio group sounds more secure. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
