Then, could you please give me step by step
instructions
how
to do it for the Alt+Shift combination?

Sure, but before you do all of that, check YaST.
That should already be keyboard system default
for keyboard group switching, which is probably
simpler (like Alt-LeftShift)
YaST
=> Hardware
=> Keyboard Layout
=> Options
-> Group Shit/Lock Behavior
-> choose the option you want here
for system (all users) default.

This has nothing to do with kde switching mode. More
accurately this method works only if kde layouts are
disbaled as
kde settings overrules these yast settings (at least this is
what
the kde manual says).

Did you TRY IT??? Because it works for me.
And has done so reliably for years.

I wouldn't write something so specific if I did not
know for a fact that it actually does work.

I can use the yast settings. And it works. But only if the
keyboard layouts in kde are disabled. In this case there is no
language flag in the system tray however, which I don't like.

K-menu
=> Personal settings
=>Regional & Accessability
=> Keyboard Layout
=> Layout (to pick alternate keyboards)
=> Switching Options
=> Keyboard Shortcuts
-> Keyboard (very bottom of column "Action")
-> Switch to Next Keyboard Layout

I know this. It just does not work with the ALT+SHIFT
combination.

If you want ALT-SHIFT, then use the YaST solution
which you blew off. I know it works because THAT
IS WHAT I USE.
Well I know it works. But my question was explicitly about
ALT+SHIFT _in_KDE.

> Now I have the feeling that you haven't tested it
and just gave advise based on what is expected to occur.

Bullshit.
I don't get why you're rude. My understanding was that you
could set ALT+SHIFT in kde (as that was my question about). I
see know that you did not mean that.

Would be nice if you could confirm that ALT+SHIFT works
on
your system.

I use it every time I want to type in Russian.

And please explain why this combination does not work in kde
and work in yast (if you know the reason).

Thanks,
IG
