The nvidia/ati manufacturer driver is not usually updated as it is not part of the distro. It could be disabled, though.

Sorry. I don't get it ...
If I disable (I do not know how to do that, anyway...)
the graphic card driver ... then what shall I expect
to see on my display ?

It uses the plain nv driver instead, which comes with the X server. Ie, the configuration, instead of declaring the driver as "nvidia", declares "nv". It is far more stable, but has no 3d nor hw accel graphics.
