There are several bios updates out there, but the descriptions associated with them don't seem to relate to any issue I have. I guess it couldn't hurt to try. If it all goes south, I'm only out a flaky gigabyte motherboard anyway.
David, I would give it a go. I've done more than my share of BIOS updates over the last 15 years, and I've only once had one go wrong. I even managed to recover from that one. The Gigabyte flash process is actually pretty straight forward - I've already been through it twice. Last update on the situation with my board - I'm returning it for replacement. Last from Gigabyte support was:
Dear Per Jessen,
Up to now we did not have such issue with the GA-MA790FX-DS5. I guess the mainboard is faulty. It looks like an temperature dependent issue. Please return the mainboard too your dealer to replace it.
I don't know where he got the idea that it might a temperature dependent issue. He hasn't asked for temperature measurements. I'm quite tempted to move the system outside tomorrow - in the early morning we're a couple of degrees below - with a huge external fan, I should be able to keep the whole thing _very_ cold. Mind you, I will be disappointed if it then starts to work. The amount of cooling I've got should be enough. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
