Not sure what happens with KDE settings, it did not work to
me some
years ago so I'm always using SaX2 to configure keyboard
layout and
switching.
In SaX2 select keyboard and go to "Options" tab. You can
select more
than one option (I'm using Alt-Shift for keyboards without
"Win" keys
and both Left-Win and Right-Win when there are "Win" keys).
I also
use
Scroll LED to indicate the alternative layout.

Thanks Mark, but this does not work for me either.
I even turned off keyboard switching in kde control center.
What settings should be in kde for not interfering the two
systems with each other (sax2 vs kde)?
