It appears that the display becomes corrupted when it is changed to a
frame buffer. At least, when the lid is shut and then reopened, the
display is corrupted. The same thing happens when going through the
shutdown process, and the X server is stopped. The shutdown splash
screens are corrupted and in almost all cases completely unreadable.

When running, the switching to a text console (ctrl+alt_f1...f6)and
then back to the X display (ctrl+alt+f7) clears the problem. The
initial switch to a text console does not clear the corruption.

I will post this problem at the Nvidia site.
