Yes, you have right, the usb modem is mounted on sdb-sde on my PC. None of them seems to respond when connecting using minicom. I am not
All those sdb-sde are disks, not the modem. You should expect something like "ttyUSB0"
Looking at /var/log/messages when connecting the modem I get the following lines:
Dec 28 21:32:25 HPAthlon64 kernel: usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 2 Dec 28 21:32:32 HPAthlon64 kernel: usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 3 Dec 28 21:32:32 HPAthlon64 kernel: usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
That's incomplete. You should see something like: Dec 30 03:54:07 nimrodel kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 Dec 30 03:54:07 nimrodel kernel: usb 2-2: new device found, idVendor=067b, idProduct=2303 Dec 30 03:54:07 nimrodel kernel: usb 2-2: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 Dec 30 03:54:07 nimrodel kernel: usb 2-2: Product: USB-Serial Controller C Dec 30 03:54:07 nimrodel kernel: usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc. But the "usb-serial" keyword is important.
It seems to me that the modem is not recognized. However, as in Yast, hardware information, the modem is correctly detected. Any ideas?
What does exactly Yast say? Use the command "hwinfo --modem" as root on a console. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
