I've played around with MySQL on the command line, creating an
addressbook database and importing some data. I'd like to use a GUI
frontend to add/edit the data, but I'm not sure what's available in
linux. Any suggestions?

tora is quite popular

http://tora.sourceforge.net

Great for oracle, but useless for mysql or any other rdbms last I
checked - or have they done an extreme makeover on it?

I've used it with mysql. Admittedly, I'm not really a DBA, so I haven't used
it for much more than simple stuff, but it seems to work well enough for
that. I know it was written for Oracle, but it does work with mysql. But as I
said, I'm no DBA, so I'm not a good judge of what's great or not
