How the #@$@#$ do you make MP3's in SUSE 10.3? There was a utility in 10.2 that I used to create them. Kaffine appears able to create .ogg files, but not mp3. However, I don't have a portable player that handles .ogg. I can't figure out how to get Amarok to even play a CD!!!

Sounds like a LAME problem... I believe for proprietary reasons, SuSE omits an mp3 codec from the base package. It has to be added separately. The opensource mp3 codec is called LAME, there should be an available package at the packman repository: http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.3/i586/ That should cure all that ails you! (You may need to do some reconfiguring of amarok and Kaffine to make sure it finds lame) Good luck, Regis ps. You really should consider getting an ogg player!
