I guess you don't correspond to people in the business world very much
apart from other techies. Business demand email trails. Heard of SOX?

Bull. It may well be a requirement in the US (and elsewhere) to keep copies of
email on file, but it is certainly NOT expected that everyone will be too
lazy to trim replies to the necessary amount only.
