Configure Desktop only affects the KDE font settings. IDL is apparently using
the much older (and less user friendly) X resources system to obtain its font
settings so it won't help.
Follow the tech support's advice and create an .Xdefaults file. I haven't
used X resources for ages so I won't give any detailed advice but the first
google hit for Xdefaults is "Using the .Xdefaults file" -
https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/Support/KnowledgeBase/Docs/20020202104217 .
You may want to find out the name of the X resource that IDL reads its font
from - it might be "idl*Font", reading the page above, but that's just a
guess.
