Hi,
I bought an HP D4260 printer today to get some print work done. I actually ended up getting this one cause the sales guy just told me i could return it if it didn't work on my system so i thought i'd give it a try without previously looking if cups is actually supporting it. Anyways, connected it to my Suse 10.2 system and it works just fine (recognizes it as a printer from the D4200 family). Now since it should go on my "server" to be made available on the network with samba, i connected it on my suse 10.1 server and.... it gets recognized as HP DeskJet only. Wouldn't print test page so i thought i'd just copy the ppd file from Suse 10.2 over and that should do it... but nada. File gets imported nicely in Yast but printer still isn't printing a test page. Any ideas or suggestions? Should i update my server system, to 10.2 (I should not need to eh?)
Thanks!

You need to upgrade your hplip package on the 10.1 box to at least version 1.7.4 (minimum required version for the D4200 series). Pick up the HPLIP Self Extracting Archive With Installer from here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/hplip/hplip-2.7.7.run
For further info see:http://hplip.sourceforge.net/
You could also add repositories belonging to higher versions of openSuse and install hplip via yast or smart but the hplip self extracting archive and installer is wonderfully easy to use.
Yup, This worked fine. At least i got it to print an HP test page, I'll look tomorrow into samba sharing. For now it's good and i'm heading to bed :) Thanks for your help! -- chEErs Ron -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
