Since he has Vmware player, I can be fairly certain he will not be happy with virtualbox. Its Vastly inferior with regard to hardware and networking options.
He asked what other software he could use to setup a VM.... so... While the hardware and networking options may be more limited with VirtualBox it still does a very good job. I run an XP install in VirtualBox and in VMWare. Consistently, VirtualBox runs Windows better than in VMWare - especially for light duties (ie home use) like running bank software once in a while. I would like to know how VirualBox emulated hardware is so limited though... you get a video card that works fine - especially when you pump up the ram to 128MB. Then I can play full screen video with no problems in XP on VBox. The network card works perfectly... and it is dead easy to add more cards. The hard drive is simple to configure and very easy to add more. You have bidirectional clipboard... shared directories... in fact I am not missing any functionality that I have with VMWare, and it loads up and starts the guest OS much faster.
