i have exactly the same problem.

and i dind't find anything in the forum or anywhere else on

i do it this way:
in /usr/share/xsessions i have (beside the original-files for kde and
gnome) a seperate xsession-file for compiz and one for beryl.

so every time, i am at the login-screen, i am able to change the type of
session i want to use.
i select kde, or "kde with beryl" or "kde with compiz".
then i log in, and started will be that compositing-manager i selected.
very easy.
very smooth.

i hope this "freezing after logout" bug is fixed soon, because with this
compiz-git is unusable for me.
