I'm assuming you're issue is more than with the legacy MP3 format and you cannot play other sound files either? When you go to YaST to setup your sound, and it states not-configured, then try a generic ac97 driver. Then test the sound. (I think there's a button thingy in YaST to test your sound.) What do you get there? Failing all this - does your mainboard manufacturer include a linux driver for the sound card?
