Erik, This may sound like a dumb question, but are you *sure* you are running WORKSTATION version of VMWare? That version is a not-for-free version (which is certainly worth the money). The correct version for most hobbiest/home/non-commercial people would be VMWare-SERVER which is free. I made a very similar error to what I am seeing with your

If I had read the fine print, I'd have realized that the features I wanted in my paid for version of an earlier version of 'workstation' were now contained in the free version now called 'server'.
