Hello Sandy,
I use qmail, but still lots to learn (including postfix, I'm very interested).
Regarding the recipient validation, the patched qmail will drop any connection
to non-existence user at the smtp level. So, the spam hasn't enter the system
yet, conserving bandwidth and cpu power.
