Show the section "Monitor" part of xorg.conf. And inform us of the resokution which you will use.
I never made it into X, as I couldn't ever see the console once the new monitor was plugged in. Well, here is the old one: Section "Monitor" Option "CalcAlgorithm" "CheckDesktopGeometry" DisplaySize 370 280 HorizSync 30-95 Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "G790" Option "DPMS" VendorName "VIEWSONIC" VertRefresh 50-180 UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection And here is what sax came up with (modulo my changes to horz & vert) for the new monitor Section "Monitor" Option "CalcAlgorithm" "CheckDesktopGeometry" DisplaySize 410 310 HorizSync 31-81 Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "SYNCMASTER 4S" Option "DPMS" VendorName "SAMSUNG" VertRefresh 56-75 UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection Note that that did not cause the monitor to show the console.
