Hello George,
you can send KMail to Control tray.
Setup KMail -> Appearance (Third fom above)-> System area (Last Tab right
side) -> always Show KMail in Control tray (Ceckbox). It shows an Icon with
the mew Messages you received.
Otherwise, there is a Prog called KOrn who could do what you want. I don't use
it anymore, because KMail does have this notification feature.
