ok. don't think that was for me, but was having a look
at that log file and noticed a warning about
"Bad V_BIOS checksum" now and then.
i810 (intel driver) detecting VESA BIOS stuff
and "going" thru video modes 640x480,800x600,1024x768,
a few 0x0 modes (?)
*Note!Only 1280x800 is now in my xorg.conf file.*
it tells us not using the various modes as vrefresh or
hsync out of range.
Then finally:
(II) I810(0): Monitor[0]: Using hsync range of
30.00-62.00 kHz
(II) I810(0): Monitor[0]: Using vrefresh range of
43.00-60.00 Hz
(II) I810(0): Not using mode "1280x800" (no mode of
this name)
(--) I810(0): Virtual size is 1024x768 (pitch 1024)
(**) I810(0): Built-in mode "1024x768"
(**) I810(0): Built-in mode "800x600"
(**) I810(0): Built-in mode "640x480"
(**) I810(0): Display dimensions: (303, 190) mm
(**) I810(0): DPI set to (85, 102)
(II) Loading sub module "fb"
(II) LoadModule: "fb"
What does it all mean? i dunno.
i have this sneaking hunch i should be adding
something as a kernel parameter perhaps??? currently
grub has vga=0x314, which i think is some kind of
1024x768 resolution, but how can this be changed to
widescreen? to best of my knowledge it can't??
