BTW, does anybody know who to extract basic information about a video from the
command line? I'm talking about what avidump does with avi files, but
something that works for most video formats.  For example:

avidump ../videos/911.wtc.2.demolition.closeup.zoomout.avi
avidump - mpeg4ip version 1.5.0.1
../videos/911.wtc.2.demolition.closeup.zoomout.avi
Video Information
   Video compressor: divx
   Video frame rate: 25
   Number of frames: 245
   Video height    : 384
   Video width     : 640
Audio information:
   Audio channels: 2
   Audio bits/sample: 0
Audio format: 8192 Format not in list
   Audio sample rate: 48000
   Audio bytes: 313344
