After some time, I have being to realise that online updates to Open
Suse products are normally preceded by advise from Novell US re security
issues (Thats if you subscribe them).
Does anyone understand the procedure and outcome of fixed bug reports.
It seems that almost none of the fixes ever translate into online
updates except if the bug is lodged against a RC that is blocker or
critical.
ALL online updates seems to originate from Novell US in response to as I
said security issues or Open Office or a Thirds party like Mozilla.
There are approx 1000 open bugs reported in Open Suse 10.2 and when they
are closed as fixed - the fix seems never to be released by On-line
Updates from Suse.DE.
Can anyone tell me if bugs are fixed are the patches released (non
security) (non Blocker or Critical) by SUSE.DE. I recall the monumental
bug with Evolution and KDE in 10.2 and recall that the QA who closed and
fixed? the issue "had to apply for a swamp ID and it took its time
getting out.
You will also recall a major online update to 10.2 Open Office - This
update was not applied to 10.1 update items. I do understand product
life cycles, however I think in the fine print it only applies to Open
versions which are again security dependant updates are only issues.
I am contemplating my next purchase to be SLED 11 when it comes out -
however, having abandoned use of Evolution for technical, stability
issues I am going to have a hard time installing Thunderbird in a KDE
Desktop.
Good cheer to all
