for viewing and editing configuration files, as well for many other file 
management and administration tasks you will save yourself time on learning 
if you look at: 
  http://en.opensuse.org/Midnight_Commander
and for short list of useful features
  http://en.opensuse.org/Midnight_Commander/Tips
There is a lot lesser to learn, most used features are shown in main window, 
lesser used are in menus.
