Well for now the windows server is up an running, it has antivirus software on it ( servers the windows workstations for that) an is running the access control into the building also ( windows only software ). I was really meaning a week at the most, I think it would have been less, But I have other duties an things that comes up during the week an I was allowing time for that an other things that come up in the weeks time. I'm also waiting on 10.2 to get here. For now I am going to copy over the data to another linux machine, which does not have the mirroring raid system I have on the current linux server. On the backup I am doing that already just not on tape. I'm backuping up to another harddrive into one big compressed file on another machine ( disk to disk). This is a much faster solution then tape backup at this time.

I have scraped the plan before I got your email message an am going to another linux machine. Like I said I have to have a windows server for the antivirus software an access control into the building ( it controls the locks an alarm system).

The problem you will find is that the files copied to the Windows server will loose all permissions and ownership. For example lets say you have a user sally and here primary group is marketing. She has files all over the file server. When you copy those files to Windows you loose sally and marketing. Now to make it even worse lets say she has files like: rwxrw-r-- sally mrketing myfile when you pull it back from windows you will loose sally and marketing and you will have the permissions: rwxrwxrwx. I strongly suggest you re think the idea of using a Windows server. Depending on the amount of data, when I was saying 24 hours I was calculating on about 600GB of data. If you only have lets say 50GB of data you can do this in a single day. Remember while the data is restoring you can be doing other things. You need to plan for this down time or you will find yourself spending more time in trying to correct the problem that was caused by Windows.
