For a a linux box used as router, or a samba server, you would be highly unlikely to ever have to update anything for the life of the hardware. Correct.

On the other hand... an older kernel with an overrun vulnerability will be less likely to be attacked over time as that kernel level becomes used less... the bottom line is pretty much the same... for a given set of hardware a given linux firewall server can run for years and years without upgrade and be mostly safe. -- Kind regards, M Harris <>< -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
