Based on my own experience I'd say not, and that you should use Debian 
3.1. If you're behind a firewall, etc, you might consider 3.0. Maybe an 
old version (with security updates) of SuSE would suit, e.g. 9.3. It 
depends on what version of Apache, PHP, Samba, etc would be adequate.
How many users will be accessing it (per hour, day and minute) ? Will 
you be serving scripted or static pages? What distribution of file sizes 
do you foresee it providing? Does it need to integrate with AD? Do you 
want to attach printers to it?
Also, how big an HDD will you put in it/does it have?
