Google Earth apparently wants Bitstream Vera Sans font. I have downloaded this but have to ask the proper way to install and configure this font.
Just install the bitstream-vera package from the distro.
Better yet, don't. Use fontconfig to map vera to dejavu (if it isn't already), which installs by default, and is a superior superset of vera. Vera is no longer being developed.
