The install may complain about not enough memory, needs a /swap partition to
continue. If you pre-partition and create a /swap partition as the only
partition, the install detects it and uses it. I believe the 10.2 install
now asks if you'd like to create a /swap partition if there isn't one and
you have 256M or less of main memory.

I'd recommend adding more main memory if you can and at least 512M to 1G for
the /swap partition.
