I have three HP Pavilion s7400n machines and all media slots work fine. My
understanding (although I must check this out) was that the media slots are a
multi-reader internally USB attached... they should work just fine if your
USB works ok. The only thing I have not plugged into mine is a micro-drive.
Compact Flash and sd-ram work fine.
Have you contacted HP regarding the difficulty... maybe defective unit?
