I intent to repartition my harddisk, so I can install Suse 8.1 next to my Suse10.2 in a separate partition. Well if your Gonzo enough to try that just be sure to document things such as the locations of the dependencies. You might have to duplicate them and also watch for versions of libraries.
"which" will find executables but the rest you will have to chase on your own. I too have legacy programs which did not make it into modern times in Win311 on PCDOS2000 so your not the only abandonware user. This sentence made me think 'Why should I want to be a man of yesterday?'. Time goes on, all things change and we too. So I decided not to install WordPerfect anymore. It's a nice memory now!!
If it works completely including modern printers you will have a very nice wiki page in your future. Great thing for a Resume. I have a hunch your project will work. Probabily in the end something like a tar gz with the additional libraries or symbolic links to same under a user.
Another approach would be to try this under a separate user and try to make it a local install rather than global just in case the global hits a snag.
