$ ulimit -v unlimited $ picasa
This works for me. You can add this into your script that start picasa in /opt/picasa/bin/picasa. I tried this and there is an improvement, it starts and I can see the License Agreement. Then I click on I agree, and then it exits :-(((. Now

I got it to work by setting:
SOFTVIRTUALLIMIT="0"
in /etc/sysconfig/ulimit and rebooting.
