Tried it. Doesn't work, exactly the same error. I also think it has to be ulimit.

I believe the correct way to use this would be as follows:
$ ulimit -v unlimited $ picasa
This works for me. You can add this into your script that start picasa in /opt/picasa/bin/picasa.
I tried this and there is an improvement, it starts and I can see the License Agreement. Then I click on I agree, and then it exits :-(((. Now this is becoming really frustrating ...
