I was hoping against hope that nobody would mention Mythtv :-) . I heard about it some time back and had a quick look at it then and found that I didn't have the appropriate academic qualifications to operate it. But maybe the link you give above will contain some comprehensible material for me to get the software to work with the card so I'll go and have a look :-) .
Thanks for your info., greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
My intention was not to say what software to use. While mythtv is excellent piece of software, and I use it for almost an year now, the idea of my post was that myth community is a great resource of tips and tricks for everything related to tv capturing in Linux.
I know - I wasn't chastising you for mentioning Mythtv :-) . I may have to refer to that community for ideas but to get myself going I just discovered, following your comment that the latest kernel does dvb out of the box, that kaffeine does dvb! In fact it just scanned in all the channels for au-Canberra! Only problem with all this is that I am getting an error message from kaffeine, "Can't bind info socket!" which I haven't a clue what it means :-( . I just a very quick look at the doc for kaffeine but can't readily see what needs to be done. Sigh. Never a simple and quick solution :-) . I must get to bed so will pursue kaffeine after some sleep. (I've got this terrible feeling that something has to be done in the firewall settings to allow the dvb card to be recognised - and I know bugger-all about the firewall and its workings! :-( .)
