[opensuse] Belkin wireless pci destination host unreachable

Hello, I just purchased a Belkin Wireless G desktop card.
I downloaded the necessary madwifi and madwifi kernel module for suse
10.1 from the madwifi.org web site.
I installed them, configured with yast2->network devices->network cards
I chose a static address 192.168.0.50/255.255.255.0 the nameserver and
host name is set to 192.168.0.20 primary 192.168.0.70 secondary
hostname linux domain local.net
default gateway to 192.168.0.1
I set the encryption to 128 bit wep and supplied my key.
I told it to use traditional method with ifup.
output of ifconfig shows the interface ath0 up with the correct
address/netmask and connected to the correct ap.
output of iwlist scanning returns my ap
output of route -n
192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 ath0
127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo
0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 ath0
this looks just like my wired connections and one other wireless
connection based on the broadcom chipset.
Problem, every time I try to ping a local machine it tells me that the
destination host unreachable.
Any ideas would be appreciated, as I need to get this machine
connected through the wireless so I can relocate it.
