Doug, I haven't followed this thread, so forgive me for that. However, I've noted something weird in setting up a printer on occassion. If the user or me as root attempted to setup the printer (most recent was an HP Laserjet 1300) by using the "Edit" fuction in Yast, it would fail every time. The "secret" is to delete that defined printer, click finish, and cose the printer window. In Yast selet "Printers" again, and this time use the "Add" fuction. Then, manually add the printer. I hope this helps!

To Carlos and Mike--
Original reply deleted. I set up the printer in Yast, and I am definitely communicating with the HL-2040, but when I tell it
to print a test page, whether text or graphic, it starts to
eject all the papers in the tray, with nothing printed on them.
When I got the printer, I ran the internal test
routine, and it did pass that test by printing a page of text and some graduated gray-scales. It will still do that, so it
_can_ print. Lacking some input from the list here, I will
try their service email, and then I will call them up, if I
have to. Thanx to all for their interest in helping out here.
Suggestions?
