This is harder to explain, since both are using the same method to shut
down.
Perhaps you just get lucky, and whatever program it is that blocks when
you use the menu doesn't block the times you use right-click?
Do you always use right-click after trying the K menu option?
Or perhaps it's the K menu that blocks, for whatever reason.
