Athlon 64 is faster than Athlon XP, yes, but only for some
memory-intensive operations.
On most workloads, it's only a bit faster, not much faster.
So generally it's not very smart to replace Athlon XP with Athlon 64
for desktop apps (unless you need Dual Core).
So, no, Athlon 64 won't pale your old Athlon XP. Neither will Pentium
4. (Haven't tried Core 2 yet thorought...)
