Yeah, I've found a bit of an oddity. The other week, I installed 10.1
from the OpenSuSE site over 10.0 on my Dell laptop with that chip. 9.3
and 10.0 had worked perfectly out of the box. 10.1, on the other hand,
forced me to download some firmware prior to enabling the wlan.

I then installed 10.1 again on the same laptop - this time using Linux
Magazine DVD as the source. The wireless card was recognized right off
and configured without a hitch.

I wonder if there's differences between the "sources" of the software
that we're getting.
