Whenever I hear of DVD/CD burn problems that seem to revolve around the
drive itself I always recommend that you find the latest firmware for that
device. A good starting point is www.cdfreaks.com. They have links to the
manufacturer's firmware as well as 3rd party firmware that may work even
better. Solved several CD/DVD drive problems for me in both reading and
writing as well as booting from the device, etc.

Doesn't matter how new/old the device is if there is better firmware out
there that lets it work better.
