Start the installation process and proceed as though you're installing from 
scratch. At some point, it's going to probe the system and find an already 
installed Linux. At that point, it should ask if you want to repair the 
installed system or proceed with a 'new installation'.

Try to get the system booting normally before attempting to address other 
questions. Less complicated!
