This is normal, since you upgraded your kernel the old modules aren't there anymore, and the "boot installed system" uses the old kernel to boot.
It sounds like you have multiple systems installed on this computer, is that right?
Yes, I have a Debian distribution installed on hdb, but only command line. Is there some connection which enabled you to guess this? The systems are on separate drives. --ED--
Is it also using grub? Could it be that that is what is throwing the error message? If it is using grub, what does it say in its menu configuration file?
