Memory demands of new update technology

Hi, When 10.1 came out, it was mentioned that the new update methodology needed 256 MB to run properly. -- Is this still the case, with the fixes? -- If yes: Can anybody in the know tell if that will change with 10.2? Background: I need to upgrade the SUSE installation on my firewall which has only 128 MB memory. I would like to know if SUSE remains a long-term option for these kind of low-powered machines or if I need to switch distributions there.
