HELIX engine on 10.1

Hi,
Using AMAROK, configured to use the HELIX sound engine in AMAROK configuration. I experiance short, sub-second, pauses in the playback. This happens regardless of source type: MP3 or OGG.
Anyone else have this prob? Any suggestions as to how to fix it.
I know that as purchased 10.1 and AMAROK cannot play MP3s ehrn the XINE engine is configured, but right now YAST is rejecting PACKMAN as an alternate install source.
