If by wide-screen you're including 1440x900, my laptop works out of the 
box at that resolution on both Suse and Kubuntu. It's got some intel 
graphics chipset (don't remember which one). i won't buy another 
NVidia-based chipset, because of the hassle i have to go through to get 
it working under Linux.
