I quite agree, having just been through it. It was mostly an exercise
in stress-control.
A friend of mine recently upgraded his motherboard in his Windows
machine, a perfectly simple operation. Yet he ended up having to
reinstall as his Windows system refused to boot from the new board (did
not recognise the disk controller).
