Thanks for all the suggestion. I finally reformated and reinstalled the box. 
And then did an online update during install. It succeeded. In fact, YOU 
specifically suggested me to update libzypp and yast2. 

There is only one issue left for me to implement Opensuse 10.1 onto my 
branches, that is to be able to VNC into screen 0.
